Garajau Underwater Partial Nature Reserve

Next to our hotel's shoreline is the first Portuguese marine reserve, the Garajau Partial Nature Reserve. In order to prevent the desertification of the seabed along the coast of Madeira Island a group of diving lovers proposed the creation of a Nature Reserve. Thus, in 1986 the Garajau Partial Nature Reserve was created and became a truly marine protected paradise. Amongst the fauna are larger fish such as the Epinephelus guaza (commonly knowned as Mero), other coastal species and the Atlantic Manta Rays (manta birostris).

Manta Diving Centre was created in the eighties and is currently a referenced diving centre on Madeira Island, with international awards and certifications. House Reef Diving Spots

Imagine if you could walk out of your hotel room door and dive straight from the resort’s shoreline. That’s exactly what you can do here!
Our large house reef offers four separate diving spots with easy access directly from the bathing complex and diving centre (5 meters to 34 meters). Here you will find a large and colourful biodiversity due to the influence of the warm currents of the Gulf Stream and the protected area of the Underwater Nature Reserve of Garajau with caves and tunnels, large groupers, schools of barracuda, colourful parrot fish and Manta rays. Divers are also able to dive during the night.

Diving Packages

Our diving centre offers a large range of high quality diving courses from beginners' level to diving instructor! Certifications according to CMAS/ VDST, IAC, SSI and PADI.

Equipment:
- Full update equipment for minimum of 15 persons
- All breathing regulators with octopus
- 12l and 10l steel tanks with DIN and INT connection
- Nitrox membrane system L&W
- ABC diving equipment, dive computers and LED lamps
- Underwater cameras
- Wetsuits and small tanks for children
- Emergency case with oxygen
- 2 L&W compressors each with 450 Lt/Min

Snorkeling Equipment

Snorkeling equipment is provided under request.

Freediving Madeira

Whether 5 or 15 meters deep or even further down, freediving is suitable for all ages! Enjoy nature at its purest state and the lightest feeling you can imagine, undisturbed from breathing echoes and heavy equipment.
At Freediving Madeira we offer the ideal settings and the fundamental knowledge for both beginners and experienced free divers. We offer specific workshops that combine dynamic, static and deep diving apnea. Let yourself immerse into this special world of freediving and release yourself from the daily stress.
Every dive is a surprise so keep your eyes wide open!

A private bay in the south coast of the island, a bathing complex which is part of a nature reserve. Our services include lifeguarded area, solarium with sun umbrellas and beds, seawater pool with children’s area, and access to the sea.
